Biomutant: The 10 Biggest Fixes The Game Needs (2024)

Biomutant has been in development for a long time. It was announced in 2017 but was obviously started before that. The presumed idea was that it would launch in 2018 but that year came and went, as did 2019, and so on. Now, after four years it’s finally here, so the big question is: was it worth it?

While it's a pretty great game, some things could have used a bit more time. The game has a lot of good ideas, butsome of them don’t work well together. There are a lot of obvious bugs to fix, like crashing, but there are more mechanical things that need attention with some patches to help make it a better experience.

10 Better Lock-On

Right now, the game does have a lock-on system in combat. It’s automatic, though, which can make the camera angles look wonky.

On top of that, it’s not easy being as precise as one may want to be in battle. A separate lock-on button would go a long way to stabilizing the combat, to help make it tighter for players.

9 Save Slots

There are only five manual save slots in the game. This is not a huge problem. For a lot of players, one slot is all they need. But,some cautious players like to keepmultiple saves in case of a glitch.

The point is, limiting the number of manual saves is a weird limitation for an open-world RPG.Giving players more options would be great.

8 Remove Level Requirements

The gear in this game has level requirements. On one hand, this is understandable, as going into late-stage areas of the game and looting chests for high levels could throw off the balance of the game.

That said, there are plenty of games that don’t have level requirementsand are fairly balanced. Another recent RPG example would be Outriders, which does not have restrictions (for the better).

7 Advance Time At Will

Advancing time should be as easy as going into a menu and changing the brightness settings. The Witcher 3 is an open-world RPG that allowed players to advance time at will. Before that, there was Skyrim, which also hada similarmechanic.

Thisfeature has been around long enough where it seems strange to see it restricted to campsites in Biomutant. It's not a big problem that hurts the game, but opening up time traversal for players would be nice.

6 More Climbing

Biomutant: The 10 Biggest Fixes The Game Needs (5)

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildtook a lot of influence from Skyrim. As much as Nintendo may want to deny it, it’s true. It did advance the genre though, like adding the ability to climb anywhere. Plenty of games have since featured this mechanic, like Assassin’s Creed Origins.

Biomutant stars an animal that should be able to climb anything but instead can only climb specific points. Not every game has to be like Breath of the Wild, but why nottake influence from the best to take fulladvantage of this finely crafted world?

5 Skip Tutorial

Biomutant: The 10 Biggest Fixes The Game Needs (6)

To liken things back to Outriders again, let’s talk about character customization. In that game, one gets to physically create the looks of their character along with choosing one of four classes. The first time through, players have to go through a lengthy tutorial. After that, the game will ask if they want to skip it when creating a new character.

This was nice if one wanted to dabble in all four classes before actually sinking their teeth into a class. Biomutant should do this too because the tutorial is long and there are five classes, let alone six breeds of animals to pick from.

4 Aim Your Gun Manually

Biomutant: The 10 Biggest Fixes The Game Needs (7)

In combat, gunfire goes automatically to whoever is targeted. As mentioned earlier, this can be frustrating because of the lack of manual focus due to the lock-on effect. The ability to manually aim one’s pistol would be another solution to this issue, instead of changing the lock-on system.

This might be a big ask because this is notspecifically a shooter, but it would be cool to see fixed nonetheless. There are some things to aim in this game, in fairness, but more should be added.

3 Identifying Chests

This game can be beautiful at times, but often only from a distance. Getting up close can and personal can make it look like it started on the PS3 and was then remastered for the PS4.That's not necessarily a bad thing though.

The problem is that itcan be hard to distinguish what is and what is not a chest to open. The graphics don’t necessarily have to be better so much as the environmental design could point players in better directions.

2 The Menu System

Biomutant: The 10 Biggest Fixes The Game Needs (9)

This fix-it note should come as no surprise, as a lot of open-world RPGs have cumbersome menus. This game is no different. The big overall issue of Biomutant is that it tries to do too much, which makes it a case of quantity over quality.

This means getting through every menu to find the thing one may want, like crafting or equipping gear, can be more of a hassle than it needs to be. Everything works, to be fair, but consolidatingmenus would save time for players.

1 Add Real Voices

Biomutant: The 10 Biggest Fixes The Game Needs (10)

The actual narrativein this game is fine but is also not the problem that most may find with Biomutant. It's how it isdelivered. This game is told through a narrator, which has its charms.LittleBigPlanet, for example, uses a narrator to great effect.

In an open-world RPG, the trouble is that it can be hard to get immersed in an NPC's troubles if they aren't the one talking. This is a big ask and may then be impossible to patch in, but it would be great to see the story revamped with an actual voice cast accompanying it to, again, help players immerse themselves into the world more.Other games have triumphed with storypatches, including Fallout 76.
